Culture tour: Q’eswachaka Inca Rope Bridge and the Four Sacred Lagoons
This trip is absolutely unique. The Q'eswachaka Bridge is located across the Apurimac River at about 3,900 m.a.s.l (13,000 ft) in the Canas province. This handwoven grass bridge spans 120 feet and is rebuilt every one or two years as a communal effort by all the local people of the region. About 700 men and women from the communities of Huinchiri and Ccollana come to Q'eswachaka for a fiesta that celebrates the construction of the bridge. The final day of the party is the second Sunday in June, where you can see typical dances and walk across the completed bridge. You can also visit the bridge site in the days preceding to see the bridge building in progress. The weaving and construction techniques have passed from generation to generation since the bridge was first built by the Incas. It is the only remaining example of an Inca hanging bridge that can be seen today.
Immersive Journey Through the North Valley of Cusco
Following the Hidden Route of the Inca: The "Pampas de Anta", formerly called "Valle de Jaquijaguana" during colonial times, is a completely flat valley located in the Anta province, about 50 minutes north of Cusco. Some of the most important archaeological sites and Colonial Churches are located around this flat valley, all of them barely visited by tourists due to poor promotion. However, that does not mean these places are not stunning in architecture and engineering ahead of their time. The area holds heavy historical significance to Cusco because some of the first civilizations of the Cusco valley originated here, and also because of the definitive battle between the Chankas and the Incas, which allowed the latter to become the greatest civilization in America.
This tour takes you off the beaten path to explore five districts of the Anta province, each with its own unique archaeological treasure.
