Experience the Sacred Valley of the Incas from a timeless and authentic perspective on this Horseback Riding Tour to Maras & Moray. This immersive journey blends stunning Andean landscapes, ancient history, and living local culture, offering a peaceful yet unforgettable adventure through some of the most iconic sites in the region.
Riding along centuries-old trails used long before the Inca Empire, you will travel at a relaxed pace that allows for a deeper connection with the land and its traditions. The tour departs from our ranch in the rural community of Pichingoto, near the Vilcanota River, and follows scenic paths toward three remarkable destinations: the Maras Salt Mines (Salineras), the charming colonial village of Maras, and the extraordinary Moray archaeological complex.
Throughout the ride, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Sacred Valley, traditional farmlands, and snow-capped Andean peaks—many of which remain untouched by conventional tourist routes. These peaceful surroundings create the perfect setting for photography, reflection, and cultural appreciation.
Our horses are carefully selected, well-trained, and gentle, making this experience suitable for both first-time riders and experienced equestrians. Combined with handcrafted ergonomic saddles and the guidance of experienced local horsemen, the tour ensures a comfortable, safe, and truly authentic horseback riding experience from start to finish.
Maras is a charming village known for its stunning salt mines that cascade down the mountainside, creating a unique and picturesque landscape. The ancient agricultural terraces of Moray present a fascinating glimpse into Inca farming techniques, designed to experiment with different microclimates. Both locations provide ample opportunities to appreciate the Andean culture and landscape.

Our private transport will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco or the Sacred Valley and take you to the starting point in the Pichingoto Community, located in the district of Maras–Urubamba.
Upon arrival, you will receive a brief riding instruction, safety guidelines, and time to get acquainted with your horse. Once ready, we begin our ride with a gentle ascent of approximately 45 minutes toward the Maras Salt Mines.
We arrive at the impressive Salineras of Maras, a vast complex of over 5,000 salt pools that have been used since pre-Inca times. Here, we dismount and walk among the pools, learning how local families continue to harvest salt by hand, preserving an ancient tradition.
After our visit, we continue riding for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (6 km) to the colonial village of Maras. This charming town is home to the San Francisco de Asís Church, one of the earliest colonial churches in the region. We visit the church and enjoy a light fruit snack and refreshment.
We then take a short walk through the village streets, where you can admire stone doorways carved with the coats of arms of Spanish colonial families, a testament to Maras’ historical importance.
Continuing along ancient Inca herding trails, we ride for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (7 km) toward Moray, the famous Inca agricultural experimentation center. Upon arrival, we explore the site on foot, appreciating its extraordinary circular terraces and learning about the advanced agricultural techniques developed by the Incas.
From Moray, we enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Andes, including several snow-capped mountains—some of the most impressive vistas in the Cusco region.
After completing our visit, we enjoy a box lunch or picnic in a scenic location. Our private transport will then take you back to your accommodation in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, arriving in the afternoon.
