Day 1 –

Cusco – Checacuppe – Quesiuno – Hampatuyoc Rumi – Pampa Camp

Your adventure begins very early in the morning with a 05:00 am pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We leave the city behind and travel by private van for approximately 3 hours through the beautiful southern Andean highlands. Along the way, you will enjoy scenic views of rural villages, rolling hills, and traditional farmlands.

Our first stop is at the charming village of Checacuppe, where you will visit the famous Inca and Colonial suspension bridges that cross the Apurímac River—an excellent place for photos and a brief walk while learning about the region’s history and engineering heritage.

Continuing our journey, we make another short stop at a panoramic viewpoint in the Andes, perfect for capturing stunning landscapes of snowcapped peaks and colorful valleys before reaching the trailhead.

We arrive at Quesiuno (4,326 m / 14,189 ft), where the hike begins. After a safety briefing and time to prepare your gear, we start trekking at a steady pace through open highland terrain, passing llamas, alpacas, and traditional shepherd huts.

After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, we reach Hampatuyoc Rumi, our lunch area, where you will enjoy a freshly prepared meal surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. After lunch, we continue ascending gradually toward our campsite.

After a total of about 3.5 hours of hiking, we arrive at Pampa Base Camp (4,885 m / 16,026 ft), set near a glacial peak and facing the spectacular Rainbow Mountain chain. In the afternoon, you can relax, take photos, or simply enjoy the silence of the high Andes. You will be served hot tea and popcorn, followed by a warm dinner as the sun sets over the mountains. Overnight at camp under an incredible star-filled sky.

Day 2 –

Pampa Camp – Rainbow Mountain Pass (Vinicunca) – Cusco

Early in the morning, we enjoy breakfast at camp before beginning our ascent through deep red and multicolored mountains, a landscape unique to the Ausangate region. The hike is challenging due to the altitude, but the reward is unforgettable.

After a gradual climb, we reach Vinicunca Pass (5,020 m / 16,466 ft), where you will witness the first spectacular views of Rainbow Mountain and the surrounding psychedelic-colored ranges. The Ausangate region is one of the most visually striking areas in Peru, with a magical blend of colors, glaciers, and dramatic peaks.

You will have time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the scenery before beginning our descent. The trail leads us through Andean meadows, with sweeping views of glacial peaks, turquoise lakes, wide valleys, and grazing alpacas.

At the end of the hike, our private van will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We arrive in the city in the afternoon and transfer you directly to your hotel, marking the end of an unforgettable high-altitude trekking experience to Rainbow Mountain.
