We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 3:30 and 3:45 a.m. and begin a scenic 2.5-hour drive to the village of Mollepata, located in the lush valley of the Apurímac River.
Upon arrival, we will enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant before continuing by vehicle to Soraypampa, the starting point of our hike. Along the way, we travel through a picturesque route known as the “Camino Real,” gaining altitude while enjoying spectacular Andean landscapes.
From Soraypampa, we begin our hike toward Humantay Lake, ascending approximately 1,200 feet (366 m) over a steep 2-mile (3.2 km) trail. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking views as we reach the final viewpoint overlooking the stunning turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, surrounded by dramatic snow-capped peaks and an impressive glacier.
The hike is dominated by Salkantay Peak (6,271 m / 20,600 ft), one of Peru’s most sacred mountains, whose massive snowy face towers above the landscape. The equally majestic Humantay Peak (5,917 m / 19,412 ft) can also be admired from this vantage point.
Local shamans and Andean residents often perform traditional blessings upon reaching the crystal-clear waters of the lake. At the lakeshore, you will have time to relax, enjoy a snack, take photos, give thanks to Pachamama (Mother Earth), or even take a refreshing swim—for the brave!
When ready, we will hike back down to Soraypampa, where a well-deserved lunch awaits, accompanied by breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
In the afternoon, we return by private transport to Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel in the early evening.
